Outstanding dancers and teachers Maksim and Julia Vasilyev held workshops at the Russian National Ba

The Ballet and the masters of classic choreography have been friends for several years. From 2003 to 2007 Maksim Vasilyev was an invited ballet master and a coach in the Russian National Ballet “Kostroma” and in “The Governorate Ballet School” (College). While working for the college Maksim Vasilyev trained the male artists and made adaptations and staged the ballet “Romeo and Juliette” for the first graduates of “The Governorate Ballet School” (College). Since then he and his wife Julia Vasilyeva, a ballerina and a choreographer, has been giving workshops at Kostroma professional school of choreography. This time the teachers spent two weeks at the rehearsal base of the Ballet and the school building of the College where they had an opportunity to go deep into the creative process of the artists and the students and perfect their technical skills in classic choreography.

Maksim Viktorovich Vasilyev graduated from Moscow State Academy of Choreography the department of Choreographic Art as a ballet artist. He has been a soloist in Moscow Music Theater named after K. Stanislavsky and V. Nemirovich-Danchenko, a soloist in “Cape Town City Ballet” (Republic of South Africa) and a leading soloist in the Theater of “Kremlevsky Ballet”. He has performed the parts of Rotbard in “The Swan Lake”, Banco in “Macbeth”, Espad in “Don Quixote”, Boyarin in “Ivan the Terrible”, Ratmir, Farlaf in “Ruslan and Ludmila”, Marshall in “Napoleon Bonaparte”, Signor Capulet in “Romeo and Juliet”, Fairy Karaboss in “The Sleeping Beauty”, Stepmother in “Cinderella” and Khlestakov in “Sketches”. He has worked with such outstanding masters as ballet masters Grigorovich, Vasilyev, Bryantsev, prima-ballerinas Bessmertnova and Maksimova, the Art Director of the ballet of Bolshoi Theatre of Russia Filin and the Art Director of the theatre “Kremlyovsky Ballet” Petrov. He has been a coach and a ballet master in Astrakhan State Theatre of Opera and Ballet; in School of Bolshoi Theatre in Brazil; in Russian Choreographic Academy and Ñamberwell District Ballet in Melbourne, Australia; in The McDonald College of the Academic and Performing Arts, North Strathfield, Sydney, Australia; in Russian School of Dancing, Rosario City, Argentina; in Nippon Ballet Academy, Tokyo, Japan; The Russian National Ballet “Kostroma” and “The Governorate Ballet School” in Kostroma, Russia; in Yakutsk College of Choreography, Yakutsk, Russia. He has staged the following ballets: “The Greatness of the Universe” by Beethoven, “The Halt of the Cavalry” by Armsheimer, “Raimonda” by Glazunov, “Cinderella” by Prokofiev, “Romeo and Juliette” by Prokofiev, “Copellia” by Delib, “The Fairy of Dolls” by Bayer, “Concert Class” by Khachaturyan.

Julia Rudolfovna Vasilyeva graduated from Moscow Academic College of Choreography as a ballet artist and Moscow State Academy of Choreography as a coach and ballet master. She has been an artist in Moscow Music Theatre named after Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko; in Cape Town City Ballet, the Republic of South Africa; in the theater “Kremlyovsky Ballet”,;in the theatre “The Russian National Ballet of S. Radchenko”. She has worked with such outstanding masters as ballet masters Grigorovich, Vasilyev and Bryantsev, prima ballerina Bessmertnova, the Art Director of Bolshoi Theatre of Russia Filin and the Art Director of the theatre “Kremlyovsky Ballet” Petrov. She has worked as a coach and ballet master in Astrakhan State Theatre of Opera and Ballet, in The School of Bolshoi Theatre in Brazil, in the Russian Choreographic Academy and Ñamberwell District Ballet in Melbourne, Australia; in The McDonald College of the Academic and Performing Arts, North Strathfield, Sydney, Australia; The Russian National Ballet “Kostroma” in Russia. She has worked as a teacher in Moscow Academy of Choreogrpahy, in Lycee Francais in Moscow, in The School of Russian Emperor Ballet in Moscow. She has staged the following ballets: “Copellia” by Delib, “The Fairy of Dolls” by Bayer and “Concert Class” by Khachaturyan.

Maksim and Julia Vasilyev work in tandem when it comes to holding various workshops or teaching. Their creative duo is famous in different countries of the world. The work of these two teachers at their numerous workshops and preparations for ballet shows as coaches has been highly praised by fellow colleagues and admirers of ballet art.

The artists of the Russian National Ballet “Kostroma” worked with the masters at daily classes of classic dancing that begin the day of any professional dancer independent of the genre he or she works in – classics, folk or modern. The day of the artists of the Russian National Ballet “Kostroma” has begun with a lesson of classic dancing for 25 years, be they on a guest tour or at their rehearsal base.

The team of artists was divided into men and women. Julia Vasilyeva worked with women while Maksim Vasilyev trained men.

When working with the female artists of the Ballet, the teacher paid a lot of attention to academic dancing, small details of performing, shapes of moves, dancing and poses. She shared some secrets of performing classic jumps and spins.

The class for the male artists was characterized by developing the strength while doing bar routine and floor routine. Maksim Vasilyev paid special attention to the academic performance of the class and shared some tricks for performing men’s leaps and spins in classic dancing.

Maksim and Julia Vasilyev’s workshops will continue next year, when the Russian National Ballet is going to celebrate its 25th anniversary. The Ballet’s team is working in several premiers based on the classical choreography.
