Russian National Ballet “Kostroma” took part in the opening ceremony of the III WORLD WINTER MILITARY GAMES.

The Ballet’s turn “The Holiday Dance”, staged by Yuri Tsarenko, an Honored Worker of Art of the Russian Federation, was a part of the opening ceremony called “Russian Souvenir”. Other participants were Maria Allash, a prima ballerina of the State Academic Bolshoi Theatre of Russia and a Peoples Artist of the Russian Federation; the choir of the Academic Company of Song and Dance of the Russian Army named after A. V. Alexandrov, the combined choir of Moscow Military Music College named after lieutenant general V. M. Khalilov and some others.  

The Ballet’s participation was especially important and symbolic for the artists because they had to substitute in the program of the concert turn of the artists of the dance group of the Company named after Alexandrov who had tragically died in the Black Sea on December, 25 2016.

World Military Games, founded by the International Military Sports Council (CISM), are a unique event that unites the officers and soldiers from around the world. The Games take place every four years. There have been six summer games and two winter games by now. The right to host the Games in Sochi was awarded to Russia after the 70th General Assembly of the International Military Sports Council.

The official ceremony took place in one of the Olympics venues in Sochi, a multifunctional arena called Ice Cube.

“Kostroma” Ballet was invited to take part in the Opening of the III Winter World Military Games by the Department of Culture of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
Sergei Shoigu, the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, Abdulkhakim Al-Shino, the President of the International Military Sports Council and Dmitry Medvedev, the Chairperson of the Russian Federation Government made speeches to start the official part of the Ceremony.
