“Kostroma” Ballet enjoys some Cuban culture.

“Kostroma” Ballet enjoys some Cuban culture. Rosario Garcia Rodriguez, a dancer and a choreographer from Cuba, came to Kostroma to give some workshops to help staging the next turn of the Ballet’s new program called “The Street of the World”.

A turn based on Cuban choreography is to become the third one in the program called “The Street of World” after compositions “Flamenco” and “Gypsies” that the people of Kostroma could see in spring of 2016 at the Ballet’s gala concert dedicated to its anniversary.

As Yuri Tsarenko, the Artistic Director of “Kostroma” Ballet sees it, the turn should reflect the period from the 1950-s to the 1980-s of the Cuban history uniting the main Cuban dance styles such as salsa, afro, el son and cha-cha-cha.

Rosario, a young 29-year-old dancer and ballet master, managed to create the atmosphere of hot Havana from the start of her workshop. The artists learnt the nuances of the Cuban culture, the traits of character of the Cubans as well as their history and national flair by learning the moves.

The workshop let the artists create the basis for the future turn, further work will be done in August 2017 when the Cuban dancer comes to Russia again.

Rosario gave a very positive feedback about her trip to Russia and cooperation with the Russian National Ballet “Kostroma”: “Through emotions, facial expressions and body language we can convey anything we want. I must confess that I was impressed by what the artists do here. I came here with one thing in mind but I had a completely different one when I saw them! Sure, our dance languages are different but we understand each other it means everything is going to work out…”

Rosario Garcia Rodriguez was born in a small Cuban town. When she turned 13, she moved to Havana, the capital of Cuba, to learn to dance professionally. In 2005 she graduated from the National School of Arts majoring in dance modern and folk dance. In 2009 she graduated from the University of Arts and, being the best student, got a diploma with honors as a dance artist. In 2012 she founded her own dance company called “Havana Queens” thus becoming a ballet master, a dancer and the youngest Artistic Director and the President of a private dance company in the Republic of Cuba. In 2014 she got the highest qualification, a choreographer of the 1st degree.

Apart from the concert activities Rosario and her “Havana Queens” stage choreographic turns for the videos of famous musicians and bands performing in various styles, for example, Van Van, Buena fe, Elito Reve, Sexto Sentido and Paulo FG. Rosario has worked in the best theatres of Great Britain, Thailand, Turkey, Switzerland, Germany, Estonia, Sweden, the Netherlands and some other countries as a choreographer and a dancer. She has staged such large-scale Cuban shows as “Bridge”, “Love is dance, dance is love”, “Havana Night”. The latter has been nominated for LEA (Live Entertainment Award) as “the best show in Germany” in 2015.

Rosario has been awarded with Lucas Awards for the best choreography, the most popular video and the best video of the year. Lucas Awards is the award of the Republic of Cuba given for the best music videos by the Institute of Radio and Television of Cuba and the Government of Cuba.
