Filming “Terpsichore’s Captives 2

The program of the shooting included the communication of the main characters of the film with “Kostroma” dancers and students of “The Governorate Ballet School”. Kostromavites could get acquainted with the creative work of Bill T. Johns, who is the Art Director and the Choreographer of “Bill T. Johns and Arnie Zan” dance group, and Natasha Balahnichova, the leading soloist of the Kremlin Ballet Theatre, Honoured Artist of Russia. The dancers and the students watched the first film “Terpsichore’s captives” shot in the genre of the ballet film, discussed the idea of the future film, its plot and the message.

The famous dancer and choreographer comes to Russia to help the classical ballet dancer to understand modern dance and discover her new FREE self. He watches the golden cupolas of the Ipatyev Monastery, visits the churches and old mansions in search of the Russian gestures and answers to the Russian questions.  

“Kostroma” Ballet dancers help the American dancer to understand the Russian spirit explaining the character of the traditional folk dance so their role in the film is not a minor one. Choreographic composition “Prazdnichnaya” (Festive Dance) performed to the world famous tune of “Kalinka” mesmerized the American guest making him speculate about the Mysterious Russian soul: “your folk dances are so cheerful and happy!” What is Freedom for the modern dancer? And does the classical ballet dancer want this Freedom? Believing in different axioms of dance the characters try to understand each other searching for support and hints in Kostroma, a provincial town with a centuries old history.
