Premier of the new program in Kostroma
On the 15th of November 2007 on stage of the Concert and Exhibition Center “Gubernsky” the National Ballet “Kostroma" presented their new longed-for program “Great Mysterious Rus”. The unique performance, organically combining traditional pieces of Russian culture and modern stage design, was shown in the native city of Kostroma. Choreography and staging by Yuri Tsarenko as usual exceed the highest expectations of the audience with its beauty and exquisiteness. The program makes good use of the most advanced technologies and impressive decorations are specially made by the best theatre professionals of Saint-Petersburg who also work with world wide known theatres and use original sketches of Boris Golodnitsky.

The National Ballet “Kostroma” took part in the 9th International Art Festival in Shanghai from the 1st to the 9th of November 2007. The journey from Moscow to the business capital of the People's Republic of China was an eight-hour flight but the bright sun and the warm weather helped the dancers to acclimatize and cope with a five-hour time difference.

The priority aim of the project is to help to revive the cultural traditions and to create a favorable image of the native town and Russia as a whole. Ballet “Kostroma” has a wealth of guest tours experience. Notwithstanding the fact that the Ballet is extremely popular abroad, it was quite unknown in Russia. No matter how original and well thought the idea if the show is, or how skillful the dancers on stage are, there is no point in it unless the show is available to the audience. The situation changed in 2005 when “Kostroma” Ballet presented 100 concerts in Moscow. One of the people from the audience, who was totally fascinated by the performance, compared it to the famous musical when he wrote in the guest book the following words “Here is the Russian “Chicago!”.

The program of the shooting included the communication of the main characters of the film with “Kostroma” dancers and students of “The Governorate Ballet School”. Kostromavites could get acquainted with the creative work of Bill T. Johns, who is the Art Director and the Choreographer of “Bill T. Johns and Arnie Zan” dance group, and Natasha Balahnichova, the leading soloist of the Kremlin Ballet Theatre, Honoured Artist of Russia. The dancers and the students watched the first film “Terpsichore’s captives” shot in the genre of the ballet film, discussed the idea of the future film, its plot and the message.
